Ormiston Gorge

On Tuesday at Kings Canyon we got up early, packed up the kitchen and walked over to the light towers made out of glass bottles to be in the morning Sunrise tv show. Soon we made some signs and we got in the second film.

After that, they said to walk over to the camp kitchen for breakfast. We waited for ages but they didn’t give us any so we walked over to our campsite and got back out the camp kitchen, ate breakfast and packed up the camp trailer. Soon we were driving to ormiston gorge.

On the way we stopped at Goss Bluff meteor crater. On the way in, it looked like a big splash made of rock. The meteor hit earth over 142 million years ago. We went on a walk to a lookout. The local Aboriginal tribe called it the Milky Way baby because it kind of looked like a baby’s cradle.

When we arrived at the camp spot we set up the camp trailer and walked over to the waterhole. There was lots of dead fish on the beach. All the fish were dying because there was not as much oxygen in the water. Soon we walked back to the campsite and had dinner.

On Wednesday we walked the pound and ghost gum walk. On the walk we had to cross a big freezing river. Dad had to carry us across because me and Mia would have drowned if we crossed ourselves. Dad kept on complaining about how cold it was. When we were on the other side we had to climb up a steep hill and follow a track to a lookout. When we were at the lookout we saw the whole gorge and it looked really cool. Then we followed another track and walked to the car park. Next we went to the Kiosk and bought an ice cream each and walked over to our campsite.

Soon we drove to the ocre pits and went on a 300 metre walk to see a cliff face that had been cut into for the ocre for ceremonial uses and painting on bodies. Next we drove home and had dinner.

Next we are going to Alice Springs
