At the Darwin Rodeo we sat on the picnic blanket on the grass for 2 hours waiting for it to start.
There was lot of competitions including bucking bulls, bucking horses, whip cracking on bucking horses, barrel racing and best dressed.
In the bull riding competition, riders could only hold onto the bull with one hand, and had to stay on the bull for more than 8 seconds to get a score. Barely anyone managed to stay on for long enough to get a score. There was a couple of bulls that would not leave the fenced area and go into the back part. There was people in pink teeshirts that were there to distract the bulls from turning around and hurting the riders.
In the barrel racing competition they had a laser timer and three barrels that people were riding around on horses. Each barrel was about 50 metres apart. The fastest rider went around all three barrels in 17.37 seconds which was super fast.
When the people fell off the bucking horses two people who were riding really strong horses would chase the other horse and put it out the back.
In the whip cracking competition they had to stay on the horse while it was bucking, and the rider had to crack a whip 3 times in three seconds and another couple of times before the 8 seconds is over. Nobody managed to do it.
In the best dressed competition there were teams dressed up as minions, brides, fairies and superheroes. When we got back to the campsite it was about 11:00 at night.
