Coral Bay (3/11/2023 – 6/11/2023)

At Coral Bay we went on lots of tours. The first day we went out on a sailboat that took us to 4 snorkeling spots in the bay. At the first spot we got into the water and swam over towards the coral. We saw 2 turtles and a Wobbegong. I got to swim next to one of the turtles. It was amazing being able to swim alongside the turtle. At the next spot they said it was called snapper hole 1, because all of the snapper come up to the boat when they start cooking on the barbecue. In the water there was not much to see except all of the fish. On the way to snapper hole 2 they put out the boom net behind the boat and I got to sit on it. At the next swimming hole it was called Snapper whole 2. We saw coral skyscrapers and me and Dad saw a Wobbegong swimming over the coral. On the way back I got to drive the boat for a little bit.

The next day we went on a Quad bike Tour. At the start we went through some safety instructions and then we started the tour. I was paired with Dad. While we were riding the Quad bikes it felt like I was going to get thrown off. There was lots of sand dunes and on both sides of the track there was lots of vegetation. The vegetation looked like it had spread everywhere and climbed up the dunes over time like ivy. On the way we stopped at Turtle cliff where we spotted lots of turtles and a shark. Next we stopped at Five Finger Reef to do some snorkeling and we saw lots of coral. Some of the coral reminded me of a Christmas tree. At the end of the tour we went into the shop and Mia bought a turtle magnet and I bought a Whale shark teddy. When we got back we went to the beach for the sunset and the sand kept blowing in my eyes so Dad gave me his sunnies.

On Monday we spent the day fishing. In the morning we drove out to Mauds landing and spent lots of the day fishing there. I caught 1 Common Dart and Mum caught Common Dart fish. The wind was so bad that it blew up all of the sand and it made my ankles and feet sting. The wind made it look like we were in a sand storm. After we were fishing at Mauds landing we drove to five finger reef to do some more fishing, and I caught a little Flathead and Dad caught an unidentified fish that was green with pink spots running down it’s back.

What is a wobbegong? That would have been fun swimming with the turtle.

Wow… more exciting adventures! Swimming with Turtles – you are so lucky to have experienced this. You are catching so many different fish – do they taste different? What is your favourite to eat? Quad bike riding would have been exhilarating. Keep enjoying! Love Aunty Kate xx
