Carnarvon (7/11/2023 – 9/11/2023)

On the first day we went to Carnarvon Space & Technology Museum. The museum is located right next to the Carnarvon tracking station. Carnarvon Tracking station was placed in Carnarvon because it was the right distance away from others and was able to cover as much distance as possible. The Tracking Station communicates with the rockets and serve as lots of help for the Moon landings.

Mission Apollo was designed to carry humans to the moon and back safely. Six Apollo missions were a success. In every Apollo crew there is three crew members. Two of the Apollo missions had to orbit earth and mission Apollo thirteen had a malfunction. Apollo eleven was the first Apollo mission to reach the moon. The crew for Apollo 11 was Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. We got to see a life size model of a Lunar Module. Each Apollo aircraft has one Lunar Module to land on the moon. The Lunar module disconnects with two of the crew members whilst the other crew member orbits the Moon. The Lunar module has restricted movement so each passenger has very little space.

Since 6th of August 2012 there have been two mars rovers on the surface of Mars named Curiosity and Opportunity. On the 10th of June 2016 they lost contact with Opportunity. Mars has the biggest volcano and the deepest canyon in the solar system. One Mars day is the same as one day on earth. One year on mars is 687 Earth days.

Orion is the new spacecraft designed to take people to the Moon. To test Orion the sent it to orbit the Earth but the lost contact with it when it went over the Indian Ocean but when they regained contact it still had all of the information recorded. Orion has never had a manned mission before. Orion is bigger than the Apollo spacecrafts and is made to carry four crew members instead of 3 for a much longer time.

After the Canarvon Space & Technology Museum we went to the Fruit Loop  and stopped at three fruit and veg stores. At the first one we bought lots of sauces, relishes and jam. We also got an ice cream each I got a rocky road ice cream. Then we went to a little store that we both honeydew. Next we went to a store that ended up being closed. The store was located on a cactus farm. There were cactuses everywhere. After the Fruit Loop we went to have dinner at a sea food restaurant. I had a huge seafood basket.

The next day we drove to Quobba for the day. First we drove to Red Bluff for lunch and to have a look at the beach. After Red Bluff we went to the blow holes. Blow holes have a big cave in the cliff then a tunnel going up to the top and then there’s a big hole in the top that the water sprays up through.

The Space Museum looks fantastic- so inspiring. We’ve only had one Australian astronaut…. You have learnt so much which is just great – even better than out of books. Have you finished the relishes and sauces? Another very interesting post to read. Love Aunty Kate xx
