Lake Argyle (29/9/2023-/30/9/2023)

Friday we picked up the car from the mechanic and dropped off the hired corolla and then started driving to Lake Argyle. Lake Argyle is the biggest man made lake in Australia. On the way we crossed over the WA-NT border. When we arrived we set up the camp trailer and went to the homestead. At the homestead we learned about the Durak family when they drove their cattle from the bottom of Queensland to Lake Argyle. They thought the journey was going to take six months but in the end it took two and a half years because in summer it rained so much it flooded everything and they couldn’t travel. They left with 13,000 and arrived with 4,000 cattle. Every calve that was born the mothers took to much to look after there babies while been driven  so the stockman would kill the calves. In the making of the dam many generations later they tried moving the buildings of the Durak family to a different place as accuratly as possible by numbering every stone but the dam filled up quicker than expected and flooded all the buildings but the homestead because the wet season came early and cyclone tracy bought lots of water from Darwin unexpectedly. When we got back we went to a pool, had dinner and went to bed.

The next day we went fishing next to a hydro electricity plant then we went on a lunch cruise and got to feed fish and got to see a family of four rock wallabies. We also got to swim in the lake behind the boat. It was warm swimming in the water. After swimming behind the boat we had a barbecue lunch and got Barramundi for lunch. When we got back we had dinner and went to bed.

We have had lots of fun on our trip so far. I found the Durak family very interesting. At the moment we are in Exmouth (one of the best snorkeling places in the world)
